Criteria for Indigenous Australians eligible for assistance To be eligible to participate for entry into CIS programs applicants must be: Of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, or Identify as a person of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage and are accepted as such by the community in which they have been or are associated. Be aged between 18 – 25 years and unemployed (12 months without full time continuous employment) or Be aged up to 18 years and at risk of engagement in or already be engaged with the Youth Justice system. Experiencing financial and/or personal hardship. *Indigenous Australian people - refers to people of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island descent. For the purpose of these Guidelines, an Indigenous Australian person is one who: Is of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island descent. Identifies as an Australian Aboriginal person or Torres Strait Islander; and Is accepted as an Australian Aboriginal person or Torres Strait Islander by the community in which he or she lives or has lived.
