Criteria for Indigenous Australians eligible for assistance
To be eligible to participate for entry into CIS programs applicants must be:
- Of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, or
- Identify as a person of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage and are accepted as such by the community in which they have been or are associated.
- Be aged between 18 – 25 years and unemployed (12 months without full time continuous employment) or
- Be aged up to 18 years and at risk of engagement in or already be engaged with the Youth Justice system.
- Experiencing financial and/or personal hardship.
*Indigenous Australian people - refers to people of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island descent. For the purpose of these Guidelines, an Indigenous Australian person is one who:
- Is of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island descent.
- Identifies as an Australian Aboriginal person or Torres Strait Islander; and
- Is accepted as an Australian Aboriginal person or Torres Strait Islander by the community in which he or she lives or has lived.
